How to configure the DNS server and DNS A and PTR records on Infoblox

In this blog, we will discuss how to configure DNS servers and DNS A and PTR records on Infoblox.

 Login to your Infoblox server.

A record – The record that holds the IP address of a domain.
AAAA record – The record that contains the IPv6 address for a domain (as opposed to A records, which list the IPv4 address).
CNAME record – Forwards one domain or subdomain to another domain, does NOT provide an IP address.
MX record – Directs mail to an email server.
TXT record – Lets an admin store text notes in the record. These records are often used for email security.
NS record – Stores the name server for a DNS entry.
SOA record – Stores admin information about a domain.
SRV record – Specifies a port for specific services.
PTR record – Provides a domain name in reverse-lookups.

we will focus on A record and PTR record.

The “A” stands for “address”.
it indicates the IP address of a domain. For example, if you enter domain name magicvlan.com, the A record currently returns an IP address of site.

A records only uses IPv4 addresses. If a site has an IPv6 address, it will use an “AAAA” record for IPv4

PTR is reverse of A record.

First, we need to create an authoritative DNS zone.

Once we create a zone, we need to restart the service.

Once Zone is successfully created,  we will create a new A record for testing.

I will use my ClearPass server for testing.

192.168.1.150 is my clearpass CCPM2 server.
